Frequently asked questions.

Do you accept Insurance?

Emerald Moon Counseling is in network with BCBS and Aetna. Please note that I do not accept insurance for couples counseling. If EMC is not in-network with your insurance, I can provide you with a superbill for potential reimbursement by your insurance. It is advisable to verify reimbursement details with your insurance provider beforehand. I do welcome HSA/FSA cards for payment.

How much do sessions cost?

I provide a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation to ensure mutual compatibility before booking our initial session. For individual sessions, the cost is $150 for the intake session and $135 for subsequent sessions. Couples counseling sessions are priced at $165 for the intake session and $150 for regular sessions. To ensure therapy remains accessible to all, a limited number of reduced-fee slots are available. Please let me know in your inquiry how you plan on paying for your sessions.

What is your therapeutic approach?

Typically I have more of an “active” than a “passive” role as a therapist. My goal in sessions is to create a space where my clients can feel emotionally secure. For some this may mean they need to have a space just be heard and feel safe, while for others we are working together to create understanding and compassion for your innerchild. If a client requests I may bring spiritual elements such as tarot, astrology, or chakra alignment into session. For those are only “a little stitious” and want to learn more I am willing to accommodate your beliefs and level of comfort.

WHERE DOES “eMERALD mOON” COME FROM?

The significance of the name Emerald Moon holds great personal meaning for me. It symbolizes the synergy between the heart chakra and our inner child, aiming to foster vulnerability and openness in our emotional core. Recognizing the profound impact of this concept on my own journey towards healing, I aspire to guide my clients in embracing a similar path towards self-discovery and restoration.

What should I expect for my first session?

At Emerald Moon Counseling, our intake sessions are dedicated to creating a safe and understanding space for clients. During individual intakes, my goal is to gain a comprehensive understanding of each client's unique experiences and needs.

For couples seeking therapy, the intake process involves either a single 90-minute session or two 60-minute sessions with both partners to explore the history of their relationship. After the intake session with both partners, I meet with each partner individually to delve into their personal histories and perspectives on the relationship. Following these individual meetings, sessions will resume with both partners present to work on enhancing the relationship together.

How often should I come to therapy?

Each individual's or relationship need is unique. It is advisable to begin with weekly or bi-weekly appointments at a minimum. This approach facilitates the establishment of a therapeutic relationship and enhances progress during sessions. My objective is to assist you in developing self-trust, enabling a decrease in session frequency over time.

Do you offer in person or virtual therapy?

I provide both virtual and in-person sessions to accommodate clients' preferences. I can see anyone in North Carolina virtually. Please let me know if you prefer virtual or in-person sessions in your inquiry.
